Global fashion houses play a significant role in influencing the social and environmental impacts of garment manufacturers. The environmental and social stewardship strategies employed by these fashion houses fitter down the supply chain. They become the de-facto processes of their respective garment manufacturers. In support of and affirming the global fashion industrys progress from fast to sustainable fashion. We at Cotton Blossom conduct our manufacturing adhering to a precise framework for strategic and sustainable development. This is robustly applied across every stage of our manufacturing -from sourcing our raw materials to processing, production and packaging.
Our raw materials are sourced directly from farms spread across 2000 acres of land near Aruppukottai, located in southern Tamil Nadu, that have been earmarked for organic cotton. 500 acres of which are currently under cultivation. The fibre sourced is ensured that it fulfills every qualitative criteria as recognized by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and the Organic Content Standard (OCS). With great care being given to ascertain its material health. We are constantly seeking to know the chemical ingredients of every material in our products and optimizing the adoption towards safer materials. By widening our understanding through clinical research of how chemical hazards combine to determine potential negative impacts to human health and the environment.
We operate three windmills, in Veeranam. Azahagiyapandipuram and Kanyakumari respectively. Two of which function at a 750KW capacity and the third at a 1650KW. help us offset nearly 75 % of the energy consumed. through our spinning and dyeing processes. by giving back to the grid in return. Our entire line of sewing machines are fitted with computerized servo motors, which allows energy to be consumed only when the needles are running, thereby enabling us to conserve 80 - 90 % of the energy. as would be used otherwise. (Photo of windmill ) Considering our proximity to the Noyyal and its current condition, our policies with regards to Water Stewardship rank among the top on our list of priorities. We see water as a precious resource and an essential Human Right
We use an effective reverse osmosis system that allows us to retrieve 95% of the treated water for re-use while allowing us to monitor variations in contamination and flow in our effluent. This coupled with a New Fitter Press allows us to treat and retrieve valuable byproducts from our waste. Such as the micro dust which is used as manure in our gardens. While salt recovered through a multiple-effect evaporator is in turn used at our softening plants. Enabling us to function as a Zero Discharge Facility. All our garments are packed in recycled biodegradable corrugated boxes. At Cotton Blossoms, we continue to embrace renewable power sources with our ongoing drive to convert all lighting within our campus to solar-powered. We've installed plants at all our employee quarters allowing us to generate Bio Gas from sewage treatment Barren ground is continuously planted with saplings, with over 2000 trees having been planted in our "Spinning Gardens" alone.
